Identify the Risks

Start by assessing potential emergencies that could impact your business. This could range from the impact of severe weather events, such as storms and flooding, to workplace accidents or unattended health emergencies. Rank these risks based on their likelihood and the potential damage they could cause.

Implement Protective Measures

Identify any gaps in your current safety measures to mitigate the risks identified. If needed, introduce new technology or systems, such as emergency notification tools or lone worker safety devices, to keep your staff safe and your business prepared.

Build a Response Team

Make sure you have a coordinated team in place before anything happens, this would include internal and external responders. Assign clear roles for team members, such as activating the emergency plan, notifying staff, notifying the Garda or ambulance service, administering first aid, and giving the all-clear once the danger has passed.

Pre-planning ensures that there’s no confusion during a crisis. Everyone knows their responsibilities and accountabilities. Planning this response may even highlight that you don’t have the capability to respond to a lone worker emergency the right way every time.

Identifying this now could save a hefty fine or disastrous incident later if you don’t have the right escalation process in place.

Plan Your Response
